The B58 engine is a masterpiece from BMW, and with FMINDK50, you can take its power and sound to new levels. The development team designed a multi-part solution to improve airflow in the BMW M140i airbox and inlet tract.
The Development Journey
Step 1: Replaced blank duct with FMINLD2, a carbon fiber duct to boost airflow to the airbox.
Step 2: Added a high-flow cone filter with an expanded surface area for optimal airflow.
Step 3: Upgraded to FMINLH25, a 5-ply silicone inlet hose with an increased diameter from 85mm to 90mm, designed to handle higher boost.
Innovative Testing Process
SolidWorks CAD, 3D prints, and numerous dyno sessions were used for development. Simulation testing and 3D prototypes ensured optimized airflow, tested both on the dyno and in real-world driving.
Carbon Fibre Advantages
Carbon fibre offers strength, lightweight properties, and reduced heat soak for lower Inlet Air Temps (IATs), improving combustion and engine reliability. The resulting denser air improves AFRs and boosts power through a bigger bang in each cylinder.
The Inlet Hose
FMINLH25 features:
– Improved induction noise
– Multi-ply silicone construction for durability
– Increased diameter from 85mm to 90mm for better airflow
– Lifetime warranty
Performance Gains
Testing by Performance Remap on a VTEC 4-wheel dyno shows gains of 11BHP and 19NM torque from 2500RPM to redline. The M140i tested was stock except for a Pipercross filter, though a tuned car will see even greater benefits.
High-Quality Design
The FMINDK50 Hi Flow kit provides critical cold air with a beautiful carbon fibre design that matches the intake manifold. Made with prepreg 2×2 twill carbon fibre in an autoclave, it includes a UV-resistant gloss gel coat.
Installation is straightforward, taking about 1 hour with color instructions included. For questions about compatibility, please contact us with an engine bay photo.
